Spend the day with northern based textile artists, Meiji Designs, as you learn the fundamentals on dyeing and designing your own silk scarf.
The hands-on workshop gives you the opportunity to play with colour, silk and texture. The session will begin with an introduction into silk dyeing and the art of devoré, a fabric technique where you burn away the silk to create individual patterns in the scarf.
Following the talk, it’s time to try out devoré for yourself. Each guest will be provided with a white silk scarf, and with the guidance of Ruth and Natalie, you will learn how to burn through your fabric to create beautiful patterns, individual to your style.
After a break for lunch, the afternoon session will be spent choosing the desired colour to dye your scarf. You can choose from a number of colour samples, which you will then use to mix your own dye recipe. Ruth and Natalie will guide you through the subtle technique of dyeing your very own scarf and pattern design.
The session will come to a close at 3.30pm, once all the scarves have been dyed. The scarves will need time to dry and set, therefore your beautifully packaged scarf will be available to collect from 5.00pm or the next day.
All course materials and silk scarf are included in the ticket price. Lunch is not provided, we recommend booking a table at The Coach House or you can bring your own, please ask staff for our picnic areas.
