Christmas in the Country

Partly because it’s party season, but mainly because it really is one of the most wonderful times of the year. Picture spending Christmas in the country? – Christmas is a magical time here. We deck the halls and feast (or rather, constantly graze on mince pies and the delicious tastes of the season). The kitchens are busy prepping and cooking feasts for those who gather to celebrate the festivities with lunch or dinner at the Coach House and the scent of mulled wine fills the restaurant.

There’s always a ‘home from home’ feel here. You’re encouraged to put your feet up and really relax, and if you’re booked to stay for Christmas, it’s just the same. Rooms feel like home, some with log burning stoves, adding a warmth and cosy feel; others have giant tin tubs outside for relaxing and soaking up the frosty picture, perfect landscape.

There are stays just for the two of you, or if you’re looking for a big old get-together, there’s the Farmhouse (which reminds us of Rose Cottage in the Holiday) or Hope House, both self-catered cottages perfect for family or friends looking to celebrate Christmas together.

Depending on how you wish to spend the festive break, cosying up quietly in the countryside, or a bit buzzier and busier in a cottage that you can call home for a couple of nights, we create our Christmas stays so can choose to celebrate as you please.

If you’re looking to spend Christmas with us, residents arrive on Christmas Eve and get settled in for a two-night stay. There are winter-inspired afternoon teas, delicious traditional rich treats, and, of course, the most delicious Yorkshire-inspired Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and figgy pudding with brandy sauce for afters.

There’s delicious, mulled wine and mince pies always at the ready, and 200 acres of parkland to explore on the woodland walk – don’t worry if you forget your wellingtons, just borrow some from reception. Spend Christmas in the country, raise a glass, and celebrate.
