Things to do in the area

When staying with us at Middleton Lodge Estate you really have no reason to leave, as you can go for walks, rest and revive at the Treatment Rooms and indulge in flavoursome ‘estate to plate’ sustainability driven food – all on your doorstep.

There’s also lots to explore beyond our picture perfect parkland, from old, the dreamy kind, of antique shops to magical walks across the rambling hills.

We’re set just on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales, and near to the local market town Richmond, which is home to one of the best-preserved Norman castles in the country.

One of our favourite walks is to wander down the old railway line along the river Swale to Easby Abbey.

You also can’t beat a walk or a cycle through the rolling Yorkshire dales, and we can help you plan a specific route with magnificent views.

At reception we have wellingtons you can borrow and encourage everyone to take a wander (or morning run) of our very own woodland walk.

Recipes from the Estate Kitchens

Inspired by the produce growing in the kitchen garden and those ingredients supplied by the local farming community each recipe we share is a celebration of a season, encouraging you to eat fresh, naturally growing ingredients which come with the equinoxes and solstices.
